Warning: Spoilers ahead for Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels.
This article mentions suicide and rape.
Based on the character of the same name by best-selling novelist Lee Child, Amazon Prime’s Reach follows the exploits of Jack Reacher, but the show also includes many supporting characters among friends and enemies. Reacher’s story is that he is a former US military police major who now roams the United States as an eternal vagabond. A man who can never stay out of trouble, Reacher finds new allies and antagonists at every turn.
Jack Reacher has appeared in 29 books as of 2024. As such, it’s no surprise that he’s encountered a range of compelling characters throughout his adventures, from loyal allies from his days in the military police to despicable villains of the highest order. As such, There’s a diverse list of characters set to appear in Amazon Prime’s Alan Ritchson-led serieswith the show having merely adapted the events of Floor of Death and Bad luck and trouble the date.

Leon Garber
Appears in Die Trying, Tripwire, The Affair, The Enemy and Night School
One of the rare characters to appear in multiple Lee Child novels, General Leon Garber is Jack Reacher’s professional mentor and de facto father figure. He is also the father of Jodie Garber, a New York lawyer who is one of the most prominent love interests in Child’s tramp romantic story.
As such, Garber is one of the most notable characters in Child’s Jack Reacher universegiven the influential role he played in Reacher’s military career and personal life. Consequently, it would be a criminal oversight in terms of Reacher’s development as a live-action character if his longtime mentor didn’t appear in some capacity as the show progresses. Although Garber dies of old age in Child’s novels, the fact that he hasn’t yet been introduced in the series could even allow the production to introduce a younger, reimagined take on the character.

Victor “Hook” Hobie/Carl Allen
Appears on Tripwire
2000s Tripwire sees Jack Reacher encounter one of his most memorable rogues to date, a villain who represents the prime candidate for one of the Reacher future antagonists. A manipulative loan shark who preys on unsuspecting business owners, Victor “Hook” Hobie is eventually unmasked as Carl Allen, a soldier who assumed the identity of the real Hobie to avoid prosecution after the latter died in a helicopter crash in Vietnam.
The hook-handed doomsday planner is undoubtedly one of Child’s most notable villains, aided by a prominent role in one of the author’s most adrenaline-pumping offerings to date. Tripwire also explores the price that the death of the real Hobie and Allen’s subsequent assumption of his identity as his parents’ responsibility, adding another avenue for dramatic exploration in a live-action adaptation. Consequently, Hook’s failure to appear in a future season would seem like a notable wasted opportunity.

Svetlana and Lila Hoth
Show up tomorrow
The thirteenth installment featuring Reacher, Leaves tomorrow follows the aftermath of a shocking incident in which Reacher witnesses a woman on the New York subway inexplicably shoot herself. The 2009 novel chronicles Reacher’s investigation into the cause of his death, a series of events that eventually leads him to Svetlana and Lila Hoth. Although the pair are initially friendly towards Reacher, he is suspicious of their true identities as Russian mother and daughter, given the incompatibility in their physical appearances and mannerisms.
These doubts turn out to be correct, as the “Hoths” are duly unmasked as experienced terrorists. Two of Reacher’s most sadistic enemies to date, the pair are famous for brutally torturing and stabbing their victims to death on camera; a delightful fate that Lila promises to bestow on a red-hot Reacher when he discovers her deception. Two of Child’s most despicable villains, the Hoths would be worthy adversaries for Alan Ritchson’s live-action take on the character.

Michelle Chang
Appears in Do Me
One of Jack Reacher’s most harrowing adventures to date, 2015 Makes me sees the drifter encounter a web of deceit and subterfuge hidden behind the seemingly normal facade of Mother’s Rest, a sleepy Midwestern town. It’s there that he meets Michelle Chang, a former FBI agent turned private investigator searching for her missing colleague.

Persuader |
Featuring a sinister organization posing as a euthanasia clinic that actually uses potential clients in gruesome snuff films Makes me is one of Child’s darkest novels. As such, It’s fortunate that the book introduces one of Reacher’s most compelling allies, Chang. Tenacious, smart and courageous, Michelle is one of the most memorable fleeting love interests the former military police officer has encountered thus far and would be a worthy supporting character to appear in if Reach choose to adapt one of Child’s most highly regarded novels in a later season.
6
Paulie
Appears in Persuader
Chronicling Reacher’s attempts to track down an adversary from his past, 2003 Persuader sees the character face what has been the toughest test of his physicality. The embodiment of this test, Paulie is the favorite to become the former military police officer’s most formidable adversary to date. A supporting antagonist in the novel’s narrative, Paulie is a colossal bodybuilder who works as a security guard for Reacher’s latest target, Zachary Beck.
Fortunately for fans of the Child series, this is a character that has already been confirmed to appear in the series. Reacher’s next outing will follow the events of Persuaderwith burly bodybuilder “The Dutch Giant” Olivier Richters confirmed as Paulie in Reach season 3. As such, a live-action version of one of the most thrilling and brutal fight sequences in Child’s novels seems to be all but guaranteed.
5
Susan Turner
Appears in 61 hours and never returns
While Cobie Smulders already brought her version of the character to life in the 2016 Tom Cruise-led feature film Jack Reacher: Never Come BackSusan Turner’s status as one of the most prominent recurring names in Lee Child’s novels means that a new vision of Turner appears in Reacher. The current commander of Reacher’s former unit, Turner was initially introduced in 2010 61 hours before his prominent character role in 2013 Never come back cast.
The closest equivalent to a female version of Reacher without Goliath’s build and collapsible toothbrush, Turner has undeniable chemistry with the former military police officer, a dynamic that would likely only serve to heighten Reacher quality. Regrettably, her character is unlikely to appear imminently, given Reacher tries to distance itself from the canon of the duo led by Tom Cruise Jack Reacher films.
4
Elizabeth Devereaux
Appears in case
The sixteenth novel featuring the character, prequel novel The case is a chronological anomaly in the sense that it occurs before the events of Floor of Deaththe first installment of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series. Chronicling Reacher’s investigation into the brutal rape and murder of a young woman near an Army Ranger base, The case sees the Major come into contact with the beautiful and formidable Elizabeth Devereaux as he delves deeper into the crime.
A former Army Ranger with a brave streak a mile wide, Devereaux serves as one of Reacher’s most memorable companions and love interests throughout this grounded origin story. Reach adapting The case a future season would provide an excellent opportunity for an in-depth look at the formative events that turned America’s answer to James Bond into the shattering enigma he is today; a situation that would not be complete without Devereaux’s presence.
3
Julia Lamar
Appears on visitor
2000s The Visitor is the fourth book by Lee Child Jack Reacher series of novels, depicting the Tramp’s investigation into a series of murders perpetrated by a mysterious serial killer after he is questioned as a suspect in the case. Targeting only female military personnel, the killer leaves his victims naked in a bathtub filled with army camouflage paint, without any trace of forensic evidence at the scene.
A thrilling race against time sees the killer duly unmasked as FBI agent Julia Lamarr, a supposed ally of Reacher in the novel. The duplicitous Lamarr uses her proficiency in hypnotism to coerce her victims into swallowing their tongues, causing their deaths by asphyxiation and leaving no trace of any murder weapon. One of Reacher’s most sinister and Machiavellian enemies, Lamarr would present an intriguing contrast to Ritchson’s vision of the character. With Reach renewed for season 4, The Visitor The fascinating serial killer-centric premise makes it an excellent candidate for a future adaptation.
2
Beau Borken
Appears in Die Trying
The sequel to Lee Child’s debut in Jack Reacher Floor of Death, 1998 Die trying sees Reacher face off against a radical militia seeking to secede from the United States after he is inadvertently caught up in a kidnapping. The victim of the kidnapping is Holly Johnson, later revealed to be none other than the daughter of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and goddaughter of the current president.
The kidnapping is planned by one of Child’s most colorful villains, Beau Borken, a violent psychopath with delusions of grandeur. The self-proclaimed leader of the separatist militia, Borken plans to use Holly as leverage in his wicked plans before Reacher’s arrival derails the work. Beau’s abominable nature and bizarre history make him an extremely compelling villain.a surefire success story in the making should Reach choose to adapt the events of Die trying.
1
Jodie Garber
Appears on Tripwire and Visitor
Contentious, Jack Reacher’s most serious love interest in 29 books, Jodie Garber is the daughter of Reacher’s mentor, Leon Garber. A very smart lawyer who is in love with the huge bum who is introduced during the events of 1999. Tripwire, Jodie and Reacher pursue a romantic relationship until she moved to London after receiving a promotion at her law firm in 2000 The Visitor.
Considering her role as one of the most prominent and impactful love interests in Lee Child’s series of novels, Jodie’s introduction in a later season makes perfect sense. The pair have considerable personal history as a result of Reacher’s relationship with his father and Jodie’s involvement in several adventures, making her a leading candidate for Reachof unmissable love interest later.
Produced by Amazon Prime Video, Reacher adapts Lee Child’s Jack Reacher book series into live action. The series follows veteran military police officer Jack Reacher as he uncovers a dangerous conspiracy in the fictional town of Margrave, Georgia. Played by the imposing Alan Ritchson, the titular hero collaborates with Officer Roscoe Conklin (Willa Fitzgerald) and Chief Detective Oscar Finlay (Malcolm Goodwin) to clear his name and save Margrave from crime and corruption.
