Starblade (SHIFT UP Corporation)
A stylish, action-packed adventure
Starblade released to critical acclaim in early 2024, thanks to its mix of stylish cutscenes, frenetic combat, and a compelling narrative perfectly sets up a potential sequel. Its gameplay loop saw players exploring a multitude of diverse environments, some of which were more open-ended than others, completing side quests, defeating optional bosses, and embarking on a quest to take down some truly horrific monsters.
While Starblade never reached the height of its most obvious influence, Nier Automatonstill managed to resonate with fans. Metaphor: ReFantazio succeed where Person failed to remove the worst parts of that series and refine what it had been getting right for so long. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (Saber Interactive)
A bloody and explosive shooter

Very similar GRIS, Snow is a thrilling and wonderfully animated adventure which follows Alba as she tries to navigate a ruined world full of monsters. She is accompanied by a wolf cub who slowly grows throughout the game and builds a bond with her.
Snow It's as beautiful to look at as it is fun to play, thanks to the inclusion of more gamified elements like combat and platforming. However, none of this takes away from Nomada Studio's talent for telling deeply compelling stories and art. Snow remains as complex as GRIS was in its themes and the exploration of them and it's easily one of the best indie games for PlayStation 5 in 2024.

A horror remake for the ages
