10 Best Items for Githyanki, Ranked

Baldur's Gate 3 has a strong focus on the Githyanki race, a fierce bloodline of warriors from the Astral Plane with a long-standing rivalry with Mind Flayers. They have some of the most unique content in the game, and players will often be rewarded for choosing to play as one. The Githyanki can also be quite overpowered, though BG3 escaping the traditional Dungeons and Dragons way of character building, and stat bonuses are not restricted to races at character creation.

Another way Larian increases the Githyanki's popularity is by having various items that only grant certain bonuses when equipped by a Githyanki. This makes choosing a race one of the most appealing, as they have access to more buffs and extra abilities than any other race. THE Githyanki also have some of the more useful racial traits, which can be improved by equipping certain items.even ones that aren't necessarily specific to the Githyanki. Because of this, there are several items Githyanki players should watch out for in their playthroughs.

10

Boots of Psionic Movement

Grants players flight – for the race they need least

The Boots of Psionic Movement are a piece of medium armor found in the Shield Knights' hideout. They grant their user the ability to use the "to fly" spell once per short restwhich seems overwhelming, but can actually be a bit redundant for a race that has access to the mdifficult step spell at 5th level. However, a Githyanki wearing these boots also deals an extra 1d4 psychic damage when attacking after casting the spell.

This can be useful for creating psychic damage sets, especially if used together with other items on this list. However, when used alone they are not a huge bonusespecially late in the game. While these boots can be useful in some circumstances, the other Githyanki racial features make them a bit redundant, and they would probably be better off swapping them for something else. Since the spell is only granted if the user is a Githyanki, it can't even be passed on to another party member who doesn't have the power. misty step spell.

Agility Armor

General armor that pairs well with Githyanki-specific items

THE Agility Armor

It is a rare piece of medium armor. It appears in a lot of builds that have nothing to do with Githyanki, and its dependence on other items on this list keeps it from being one of the more interesting options. It grants a +2 bonus on all saving throws, which synergizes well with other Githyanki-themed gear. THE Circle of Psionic Vengeance

it also grants bonuses to a handful of saving throws when equipped by a Githyanki, one of which is intelligence, and the Amulet of the Aberration Hunters grants advantage on intelligence saving throws. Equipping all of these items together can result in an optimized caster.

Githyanki also gain proficiency in light and medium armor thanks to their "Martial Prodigy" racial trait. In Baldur's Gate 3Arcane Trickster wizards and rogues use intelligence as their spellcasting stat, and both wizards can suffer penalties for equipping armor. However, a Githyanki is the only race that receives armor proficiency as a race bonus, meaning any Githyanki character is able to use this armor without having to take a feat. This armor is sold at the Stormshore Armory in Undercity during Act 3.

8

Aberration Hunter Amulet

A good choice for the Act 2 mind flayer colony and the fight against the underbrain

THE Aberration Hunter Amulet

is an item that allows the bearer to gain advantage on attacks against aberrations for three turns, once per short rest. In Baldur's Gate 3, aberrations include cloaks, beholders, and mind flayers. While the first two are few and far between, mind flayers are a big part of the plot of Baldur's Gate 3, so this item could be especially useful at the end of Act 3, as well as at a few other specific points. This effect is granted by a bonus action, so The amulet is a good choice for rogues as it supports their sneak attack ability.

Aberrations in Baldur's Gate 3:

  • Mind flayers

  • Spectators

  • Cloakers

  • Intellect Devourers

  • Gluttons of Intellect

  • Netherbrain, Netherbrain Tentacles

  • Countermeasures

  • Marcus Flaming Fist

Advantage on intelligence saving throws for Githyanki bearers makes this a great item to give to a spellcaster. Another Githyanki-specific bonus the amulet grants is aberrations having disadvantage against the wearer, which can also be useful in some circumstances. However, as it is only really useful against a certain type of enemy, it is not one of the best options. Having advantage on intelligence saving throws is great early on, but there are several ways to get it otherwise. The item is found in Ghustil Stornugoss in the Githyanki Nursery doctor's office.

7

Steel Guard Helmet

Use Misty Step effectively even in darkness

The Steelwatcher Helmet is a rare helmet that grants the wearer darkvision and immunity to blindness. At level five, all Githyanki characters have access to the misty step spell, which allows them to teleport to any unoccupied place they can see. Being able to see clearly in the dark and not being able to have your vision rendered are both very useful in this sense, as it means you will always have a quick escape, regardless of the situation.

This is also medium armor, which any Githyanki can wear. It is found on the ground floor of the Steelwatch Foundry. While the helmet can still be a bit situational, it's useful in its own right without needing a build to support it with other items, so it's a solid option for a Githyanki character.

6

Helm of Hell's Dusk

A helmet that anyone can benefit from

The Helldusk set is great for any character, especially the Hellish Twilight Armor
, which can be used by any character. However, the Helm of Hell's Dusk

works particularly well with Githyanki. Just like the Steelwatcher Helmet, this helmet grants immunity to blindness as well as the ability to see in magical darkness, which is an improvement over the standard darkvision granted by the Steelwatcher Helmet.

This helmet is one of the best in the game for absorbing damage. User cannot receive critical hits and also gains a +2 bonus on spell saving throws. This item can be found in the House of Hope in Raphael's safe.

5

Psionic Protective Armor

Defend yourself against psychic harm

Psionic Protective Armor

It's a perfect piece of medium armor for tanking. When a Githyanki equips this armor, they gain resistance to psychic damage, which halves the HP lost to any such attack. What makes this armor particularly attractive is that the user regains 1d4 of their hit points when they make a saving throw against a spellwhich will often prevent them from being slaughtered. It is found in Ch'r'ai Tska'an, Vlaakith's avatar, near the Baldur's Gate waypoint in Act 2.

4

Brain Drain Gloves

The perfect complement to any psychic damage build

THE Brain Drain Gloves

They're not exclusive to the Githyanki by any means, but they are made for any build that inflicts psychic damage, which is what most Githyanki-specific items do. If the wearer of these gloves deals psychic damage to an enemy, they will also apply the “mental fatigue” effect.

This means that the affected entity has -1 to Charisma, Intelligence, and Wisdom saving throws and will take 1d4 psychic damage if it fails one of the saving throws mentioned above if there are still more than four turns left in the condition.

3

Circle of Psionic Vengeance

Grants a very useful reaction

THE Circle of Psionic Vengeance

offers an alternative to "Psionic Reaction"Illithid Power, which allows players to use a reaction to deal 1d4 psychic damage to an enemy who has cast a spell on them. Psionic Revenge is very similar, dealing the same amount of damage to an enemy that caused a saving throw when the user succeeds in casting it. This item is perfect for a Githyanki character who doesn't plan on embracing their illithid parasite.

Githyanki wearers of this tiara gain +1 to Charisma, Intelligence, and Wisdom checks. This makes it a great choice for any Githyanki spellcaster, as these are all their sources of spellcasting abilities in the game. It can be found at Inquisitor Ch'r'ai W'wargaz in the Inquisitor's Chamber at Y'llek Daycare.

2

Soul-Destroying Greatsword

Githyanki bearers deal more damage

THE Soul-Destroying Greatsword

is a two-handed sword found in Kith'rak Therezzyn in the Githyanki Nursery. It grants a +2 initiative bonus to any user and will deal an extra 1d4 psychic damage when wielded by a Githyanki. Grant the "soul destroyer" Action, which deals additional psychic damage depending on the user's proficiency bonus and also has a chance to stun the target.

This weapon deals 3-13 slashing damage in addition to the holder's Strength modifier. It's a strong option overall, but it's possible to cover the same ground while also overcoming it with another item that's even better for Githyanki characters in Baldur's Gate 3.

1

Astral Plane Silver Sword

The best item for Githyanki fighters, barbarians, and paladins

THE Astral Plane Silver Sword

and essentially an upgraded version of the Soulbreaker Greatsword. It also grants the "soul destroyer"action, but it deals 5-15 slashing damage instead of 3-13. This doesn't even take into account the bonus damage it receives when equipped by a Githyanki, which adds an extra 1d6 to the total.

While players typically receive this item in Act 3, they can also obtain it in the first act if they can get Voss to drop his weapon, as shown in Video from Deltia's Gaming. Players will have to sneak up on Voss to do this, otherwise it will trigger a battle that starts with him riding off on a red dragon.

A Githyanki wielding this weapon has resistance to psychic damage and immunity to being charmed. They will also gain advantage on Charisma, Intelligence, and Wisdom saving throws. This is the item with the most benefits specifically for Githyanki, and is probably the best weapon choice for a melee-based Githyanki character in Baldur's Gate 3. The sword can be obtained from Kith'rak Voss in the Act 3 sewers as a reward for retrieving the Orphic hammer, but can also be looted from him if the party decides to kill him.
