The best Hulu movies of 2024 offer a mix of content. For many years, Hulu
it wasn’t known as the home of original content, but rather as the streamer where recent television shows arrived the next day. Because so many networks and studios now have their own streamers, Hulu is increasingly involved in producing its own original movies and shows.
In 2024, Hulu released as many documentaries as fiction stories and truly presented a wide range of stories for audiences to enjoy. Subscribers received documentaries about growing up in Hollywood, horror stories about children’s programming, coming-of-age tales, and stories set in the 1930s. Between them all, these were the best Hulu had to offer in 2024.

In recent years, actors and singers who grew up in the industry have become much more open about their struggles with pressure and how working from a young age can affect their mental health. One of the most highlighted artists was Demi Lovato because of her public battles with addiction and eating disorders. Although there are other videos about her, this one was made by Lovato herself. She is one of the directors and is on camera.
Not only does Lovato tell her own story about growing up on camera, but she also talks to other actors in the industry about their own experiences, including Drew Barrymore, who has also been open about her own past struggles with growing up so quickly. Also included is former Nickelodeon star Kenan Thompson, who now works for Saturday night liveAlyson Stoner, who primarily does voiceover work, and Raven-Symone, who hosts several television shows. They all offer their own unique viewpoints to the industry.
What sets this documentary apart from so many others that examine child stardom, however, is that everyone involved is also an advocate for today’s child artists. Everyone is willing to discuss their own experiences and work to make a change in the industry.

Hulu isn’t particularly known for having a lot of great documentaries on their slate, but 2024 was a good year for them. There has especially been a large body of documentaries about the entertainment industry. Besides Lovato Child starAndrew McCarthy also reviewed the Brat Pack.
McCarthy directed the documentary and many of his Brat Pack colleagues appeared in it, including Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy and Demi Moore. McCarthy even got David Blum, the journalist who coined the term “Brat Pack,” to appear on camera. The documentary explores how being nicknamed the Brat Pack affected its members as they came of age in the film industry.
While it’s more focused than Lovato’s documentary, it’s not as enlightening. It’ll definitely be interesting for fans of actors who have maintained careers in Hollywood, but it’s also more aimed at actors getting a chance to air their grievances rather than actually exploring their story.

…charming and fun, while sharing all the strangeness of being a teenager.
When they are 13 years old and still a few years away from attending their high school prom, two best friends make a pact to throw the best prom ever. Unfortunately, When it’s time to get ready for prom, the two young women are done with their dates and want to find new dates that can help them keep their dream alive.
The prom is one of the easiest coming-of-age tropes to include in television and movies aimed at teens. While most projects present the prom simply as part of the story, the rare film will have the entire story revolve around the prom, like this one.
While not all of the characters get the chance to be fully developed, the film has a stellar cast. The protagonists are Antonia Gentry from Gina and Georgia and Julia Lester from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. They carry much of the film’s work, making it charming and fun while sharing all the strangeness of being a teenager.

However Greatest hits was filmed in 2022, it didn’t get a distribution deal until 2024. Unlike many Hulu original films, this one was a co-production. Searchlight Pictures handled the film’s limited theatrical run before Hulu subscribers could watch it in early 2024.
The film follows a young woman grieving the loss of her boyfriend. As she struggles with grief, however, certain songs associated with her late boyfriend cause her to time travel to moments in the past. Those around her simply think she is having a seizure, causing people, including a new man she connects with, to initially disbelieve her time travel.
The concept is interesting, as songs can be emotional triggers in reality, so why wouldn’t they trigger time travel in a fantasy story? Ultimately, she has to decide if she wants to move on with her life and the new man she loves. It’s a little emotional, but also a wonderful examination of grief through a new lens..

Crocket is a likable villain, who the audience can really understand…
Children’s programming is a comforting pastime for many people who love movies and television as adults. Many adults today have fond memories of Sesame Street or Reading Rainbow or Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. Some of those memories may be tarnished if they decide to stream the horror movie Mr.
The film shows a demonic entity kidnapping children through his television program. A mother goes looking for her son back when she realizes what happened. The series that kids love is clearly meant to be shipped Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhoodcomplete with puppets that the host converses with.
Of course, there is a problem when it comes to Mr. Crocket’s motivations in the film. It’s rare that a horror film makes you want to see more of the villain’s story, but here that’s exactly what happens. Crocket is a likable villain, who the audience can really understand when they find out why he does what he does, and that makes the film even more interesting.

Fanatic: Tegan and Sara’s Catfishing

Tegan and Sara are sisters first and a musical act second. When their music became popular, they gave a voice to the marginalized LGBTQ+ community at a time when celebrities could still interact with fans online in relatively small spaces. They utilized channels like MySpace and Tumblr to share information and build a community. As a result, someone else was easily able to gain access to her information and impersonate Tegan Quinn.
The documentary highlights how, for nearly two decades, fans and others in the industry were catfished by someone pretending to be Quinn. Most exchanges are innocent enough friendships, but they mark a strong betrayal of trust when the truth is discovered. The documentary allows Quinn herself to share her side of the story, as well as some of the people who were catfished by her impersonator.
One of the saddest parts of the documentary is that there is still no concrete answer as to who is behind the catfishing. Although there are suspects, and the documentary even shows Quinn speaking to one of them, no one has been found guilty. It’s a reminder of how vulnerable people can be on social media without realizing it.

Thanks to Ryan Murphy American horror storySarah Paulson has more than proven that she excels in the realm of horror. No matter what horror tropes are employed in the story, and seemingly no matter what type of horror is explored, Paulson is a compelling watch. Much of Hold your breath the success is also due to Paulson’s performance.
Set in the 1930s, Paulson plays a mother who raises her daughters on a dusty farm while her husband works on a construction site in another state. The family struggles to stay afloat and she becomes worried for her daughters’ safety when a drifter passes through town and her teenage daughter tells the family a scary story.
The Hulu original film was released in late September 2024, just in time for Huluween in October. Although the film received mixed reviews from critics Paulson really steals the show when a mother slowly loses her grip on reality because she’s too focused on keeping her children safe.

Parker provides the film’s emotional core…
Solar Coast is written and directed by Laura Chinn. Chinn’s name may sound familiar to TV fans because she also starred in, wrote and produced the series Florida Girls. To Solar CoastChinn draws on some of his own real-life experiences to bring the story to life.
Chinn’s story follows a young woman and her mother moving when her brother needs to be housed in a specialized long-term care facility. As the young girl faces the reality of what is happening in her own family, she also befriends an eccentric activist at the facility.
Chinn’s own brother was in hospice in his early 20s when he died of complications from a brain tumor. Chinn drew on these experiences to create a compelling story with Nico Parker as the young woman in the middle of it. Parker provides the emotional core of the film, delivering a moving performance.

The best Hulu movie of 2024 is The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat. Inspired by the 2013 novel of the same name, these Supremes are not the group of powerful singers, but a group of black women who have been best friends for years and like to call themselves the Supremes.
The film shows the group’s connection to each other tested by several dramatic circumstances. Adultery, addiction and murder play their part in the film. While it may seem like it all belongs in a soap opera, the film is able to exist in a heightened sense of reality, finding the hilarity in ridiculous situations and the tragedy that can happen to anyone in your life. The performances of the cast – Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Sanaa Lathan and Uzo Aduba – help ground the film in reality.
