10 Baldur’s Gate 3 Updates That Stop Players From Criticizing The Game

Devoted fans of loved Baldur’s Gate 3 are always trying to find interesting new ways to improve the game and cheat the system, taking advantage of exploits and loopholes that Larian Studios probably didn’t consider during development. However, Larian has tried its best to provide solutions to these oversights with several patches since launch. The newest Patch 7 is no exception, and there are a few notes dedicated to fixing parts of the cheese that can be turned into cheese. Baldur’s Gate 3.

These updates prevent players from taking advantage of bugsusing research or trading features in ways they shouldn’t be used, and more. They all focus on game elements being used in unintended ways, and are sometimes partially the developer’s fault for not thinking about how creative Baldur’s Gate 3 would be the players.

wall bug

Players were able to get past certain destructible walls more stealthily

Baldur's Gate 3 broke the wall leading to Philomeen's hideout

Prior to Patch 7, players were experiencing a strange issue: when attacking destructible walls in a certain way, the party member would navigate through the wall without breaking it., and try to break it from the other side. Players were able to exploit this glitch to pass through certain destructible walls more stealthily, or to pass through walls without wasting time or resources destroying them.

Players were able to exploit this glitch to get past certain destructible walls more stealthily, or to pass through walls without wasting time or resources destroying them.

Apparently there was a bug that allowed players to attack a destructible wall, but instead of destroying the wall they would pass through it without breaking it. According to the Patch 7 notes on Baldur’s Gate 3 website: “Fixed a bug that allowed you to walk through destructible walls without actually destroying them. (You could try attacking the wall and your character would find a way through it looking for a comfortable spot to take a swing.)

Insect in a wild way

Characters in wild form weren’t dying

Fans of the druid class in Baldur’s Gate 3 You may have noticed that using Wild Shape and then casting apparent

spell would produce some unexpected results. Once characters in their Wild Form have been affected by apparent, they were able to reduce their health to zero without dying. Needless to say, Larian didn’t intend for there to be invincible druids traversing Baldur’s Gate, so they addressed the issue in the recent patch.

While it may have been fun not to worry about dying in Wild Shape, players will need to find new ways to avoid death as a druid. Or, for players interested in invincibility, Patch 7 also includes official mod support for PC and consoleSo there will be no shortage of great new community mods that will make death a thing of the past.

Lathander’s Light and Dark Wish Trick

A Trick That Can Save Beloved Companions From Dark Desire

Players embarking on their first Dark Urge run may have been devastated when certain companions were lost. So it’s no wonder veteran players have gathered a little trick that could save your beloved companions from the Dark Urge using the The Blood of Lathander

passive skill. Equipping the item on the companion that Dark Urge kills would likely save that companion from death: “The Light of Lathander will no longer be able to save companions that Dark Urge was tricked into killing“, according to the patch notes.

Understandably, Larian felt it prudent to fix this because it completely negates one of the essential experiences of playing as Dark Urge. Although it was a clever workaround, not losing these companions hurts the Dark Urge experience, and ultimately, players should feel the impact of Dark Urge boosts directly in their gameplay.

7

Active Research Cheese

Players used active research to obtain valuable items

There aren’t many patch notes in Patch 7 as cheeky or direct in addressing a cheese as the Active Search patch note, which fixed a loophole players were using to get some very valuable items in Ramazith’s Tower. This area was intentionally built with lots of traps and a somewhat elaborate puzzle that frustrated some players, but it also contains some of the best items in the game. The patch note says: “You can no longer use the Active Search feature to bypass the booby-trapped display case in Ramazith’s Tower and get the key inside. Smart pants.

Apparently, some very cunning players realized that the active search tool allowed them to get the valuable keys locked inside these display cases: the number 1 key to the Counting House vault and the key to the mysterious Sorcerous Sundries door. Players will now have to resort to more traditional methods after Patch 7.

6

Unlock through Trade Cheese

Players opened boxes and containers in a very simple way

an open box in Baldur's Gate 3

Before the Patch 7 update changes to BG3There was a way to open locked boxes and containers without using safecrackers, spells, or any other conventional methods. The update fixed an exploit that allowed players to open locked containers while trading. The patch notes say: “You can no longer open locked containers through trade as if they were not locked.”

Essentially, the player could see what was inside and simply drag items into their inventory instead of unlocking the mechanism through proper methods. For certain important quests and to access items without wasting resources, this was a convenient, albeit unintended, little workaround by Larian’s developers. Players will now have to resort to old-fashioned lock-pick or smash-and-bash methods for entering locked containers.

Cazador Pentagram Cheese

It was possible to change the function of the pentagram

When players finally reach Cazador Szarr during Astarion’s dark and twisted quest, they will be in for quite a difficult fight. Any advantage or perk the party can utilize will be incredibly useful, so It’s no surprise that players discovered it was possible to change the function of the pentagram on the dungeon floor to acquire additional bonus actions for your characters each turn. An extra bonus action makes the fight much more manageable, but it’s not something Larian considered fair play, according to the patch notes:

Fixed a bug in the Cazador fight where it was possible to get more than 1 extra Bonus Action per turn for the same character by stepping in and out of the pentagram in front of Astarion multiple times per turn.

Crucially, players were able to shape the pentagram in front of Astarion’s pillar to gain an unfair advantage with the additional bonus action. This dungeon and Astarion’s legendary final battle received some quality of life updates, as well as an Honor Mode boss update for Cazador that allows him to use legendary abilities in mist form.

4

Viconia vs. Shadowheart Wild Shape Cheese

A trick to prevent Viconia from using her Shadowheart-specific spells

In the dramatic confrontation between Viconia DeVir and Shadowheart, some players found an interesting trick that prevent Viconia from using her powerful Shadowheart-specific spells as long as Shadowheart was in Wild Shape. This was an extremely useful trick when dealing with the various heart mapping spells, a unique set of conditions caused by the ritual performed when players sit on the bench in the House of Pain. However, Larian put an end to this feat: “Viconia can now target Shadowheart with her trademark spells, even if Shadowheart is in wild format.

While this advantage was minimal compared to the difficulty of the fight, it exploited a small loophole that Larian did not intend for this particular sequence. It also clearly broke the immersion, because it wouldn’t matter from a narrative perspective that Shadowheart was wild-shaped – she’s still Shadowheart.

3

Moonrise Towers Tiefling Bug

An easy way to rescue Tieflings

Another difficult task in Act Two is rescuing all the prisoners in Moonrise Towers. Players often struggled to rescue the tieflings and after some trial and error realized that it was possible to simply leave the area and the Moonrise Tower tieflings would be alive and well back in Moonrise after the fight’s conclusion. However, it appears that Larian realized this was in poor taste and fixed the issue, noting in the patch summary: “Fixed a bug where tieflings trapped in Moonrise Towers would be saved and taken to Moonrise if you left the area while they were being rescued.”

It is no longer possible to save the tieflings just by rescuing the area all togetherand players will have to accompany them to the escape boats as planned. Fortunately, this can be done easily with a little practice and careful planning.

2

Witch Ray Exploration

Allowed players to launch an extremely powerful beam at multiple targets

Witch's Lightning Spell in Baldur's Gate 3-1

For wizards who love a good upgraded Witch Bolt, the passive feature Metamagic: Twinned Spell allowed players to essentially cast an extremely powerful beam at multiple targetswhich is not necessarily a fair use of the spell – at least from Larian’s perspective. The patch notes say: “Witch Bolt Upcasts can no longer be used with Metamagic: Twinned Spell.” This may seem like more of a spell nerf than an exploit fix, but the patch resolved the issue nonetheless.

The problem with Witch Bolt was fixed to some degree in a previous patch, noting the logic that a secondary Witch Bolt cast would technically break Concentration. This means that throwing two Witch Bolts at the same time is technically against Baldur’s Gate 3rules.

Leap of Faith Trial

A very easy solution to a challenging puzzle

One of Larian’s most common cheesy solutions is in Guantlet of Shar, an infamous dungeon full of puzzles and hidden paths. Larian finally decided to fix an important cheese in the Leap of Faith trial inside the Gauntlet of Shar. This puzzle requires players to navigate a hidden path across a chasm, with the correct path map laid out on the floor. However, players were able to simply select the Move option, allowing characters to find the hidden path, without the need for navigation.

You can no longer pass the Leap of Faith test in Trial of Shar just by clicking on the final platform and letting your character find their way there. Shar threatened to hurt us if we didn’t fix this”, says the patch notes. This probably comes as no surprise to Baldur’s Gate 3 fans, as it became a very easy solution to a challenging puzzle. Players will now have to pay a little more attention to this one.
