A quote from Marvel Television's Agatha all the time the series perfectly underlines the tragic backstory of Wanda Maximoff's Scarlet Witch in the MCU. Elizabeth Olsen debuted as Wanda Maximoff in the 2014 post-credits scene Captain America: The Winter Soldiermaking his first full appearance in 2015 Avengers: Age of Ultronand has had an incredibly tumultuous journey in the MCU since then. It could be argued that Wanda Maximoff's Scarlet Witch has the most tragic backstory of any character in the MCU, and 2024 has made it even worse.
Even though Wanda Maximoff's Scarlet Witch is no longer in the MCU after her sacrifice in 2022 Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesshis legacy is still being felt. Recent Marvel Television Agatha all the time series directly addressed the impact of Scarlet Witch's deathparticularly through the resurrection of his son, Billy Maximoff, in the body of Joe Locke's recently deceased William Kaplan. While this could have redeemed Scarlet Witch, Billy's return completed Marvel Studios' disrespect of Elizabeth Olsen's beloved MCU character.
Scarlet Witch's MCU arc was a tragedy
Elizabeth Olsen played Scarlet Witch between 2014 and 2022
Throughout her eight years in the live-action MCU, it was incredibly rare for audiences to see Wanda Maximoff's Scarlet Witch in a happy moment.. Her lifelong journey in the MCU has been marked by tragedy at every turn, starting when she was very young in war-torn Sokovia, with this war culminating in the deaths of her parents. After volunteering for HYDRA's experiments and having her powers enhanced, Wanda and her twin brother, Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver, joined the Avengers, leading to the latter's death at the hands of Ultron.

Wanda Maximoff then became a fugitive after 2016 Civil Warand was forced to kill her love, Paul Bettany's Vision, to stop Thanos from Avengers: Infinity Waronly for the Mad Titan to reverse time and succeed anyway. Wanda's transformation into Scarlet Witch WandaVision made her a genuine villain to many, specifically the trapped residents of Westview, while she, again, lost her sight as well as her magically raised children. All of this culminated in his rampage across the multiverse and, eventually, his sacrifice on Mount Wundagore.: A sad ending to Scarlet Witch's tragic life.
Wanda's rejection of Billy in 2024 completed Marvel's disrespect for her
Billy Maximoff Underlined Scarlet Witch's Tragic MCU Plot
After he finally revealed his true identity in Agatha all the time episode 5, 'Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power', Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness were able to speak freely to each other as they continued down the Witches' Road. Episode 7, "Death's Hand in Mine", saw Billy question Agatha about the Scarlet Witch's true status, while noting that she is not his mothersuggesting he already has one, referring to Rebecca Kaplan, who has created it over the past three years. This marked Marvel's latest, and perhaps biggest, insult against Wanda Maximoff.
Wanda Maximoff literally broke the walls of the multiverse to try and reunite with her children, who she thought ceased to exist in the main MCU continuity at the end of WandaVision. Despite this, Billy Maximoff showed no respect for her in Agatha all the timechoosing instead to forgo their obvious connection. Even so, his Chaos Magic skills and superhero costume inspired by Scarlet Witch and Vision as Wiccan tells a different storySo the possible reunion between Wanda and Billy Maximoff could still be an exciting moment in the MCU's future.
