The foundation of Batman: Castle by Gary Whitta, Darick Robertson, Diego Rodriguez, and Simon Bowland it seems very simple at first: and the Earth is locked in global darkness due to a mysterious signal, Batman and the remaining members of the Justice League struggle to find a cause while the power continues to decline. However, the series quickly diverged from the problem at hand, ignoring the larger problems that the blackout could have caused.
Batman: Castlelimited series that started in 2022, focuses on a global blackout after an alien spaceship lands in space. In retrospect, instead of the story Batman: Castle told about Batman's search for the missing Superman, it would have been an excellent opportunity for a pandemic story about the role of responsibility in the injured community.
The plot of the comic sees Batman developing an unlikely team after the Justice League's swift defeat against a hostile alien ship. An ad-hoc team chases Superman who – while at the heart of the series – is dead. The conclusion that Batman: Castle it encourages another look at the character of Superman and discusses the responsibility of power when it comes from a dirty background.
Superman's human heart was nowhere to be found in this story
When the World Needed a Superman, the Man of Steel Went
Batman: Castle it is explained that the Green Lanterns are ordered off the planet due to galactic politics that allow aliens to invade Earth's atmosphere. However, unlike the Green Lanterns, who are part of an official organization, Superman must be there a lot when humanity needed him the most. Not just for Metropolis, but for the whole world that needed a hero. The final issue of the series explains that the aliens came to Superman because Krypton is a planet of conquerors.
With a history like his, Superman is considered a worthy hero.
He is well aware of his grandfather's faults, Superman is literally hiding in the depths of the Earth's oceans in his Fortress of Isolation to avoid detection, which would have worked if he wasn't Batman. Despite defending himself by Pa Kent's standards, Superman's behavior is not as obvious as he used to be. Although Superman has unimaginable powers compared to the likes of Batman or the Green Arrow, he strives to do good on a level that most people will never reach. With a history like his, Superman is considered a worthy hero.
During the violence of COVID-19, people of incredible courage and kindness are stepping up as the world stops working, being called “superheroes” for their actions. It would do good meta story for Superman in Batman: Castle doing the same, climbing even when it puts him in danger. That was the direction Batman: Castle I would have taken it, but he chose not to.
Finally, Batman Got All of Superman's Powers
Batman: Castle Completion Early 2023
In the last issue of Batman: Castle, Superman surrenders willingly, suggesting that his powers be given to someone else. Although readers never see the courtroom, Whitta and Robinson show the result: Batman is given Superman's powers, allowing Superman to live the normal life he's always wanted. Ignoring that Superman's abilities are not what make him Kryptonian, since the aliens admit that Krypton's evil deeds are done under a red sun and not a yellow one, this twist does not contradict the fact that. Superman's powers were never the true focus of the comicsand their supply was not to be the final result.
Batman gains Superman's powers at the end of The fortress He is a slap in the face in his decisions throughout the story.
Unlike Superman, Batman does what he can in a time of crisis. In Batman: Castle #1, he works around the clock to keep Gotham's crime scene from exploding; in the middle Batman: Castle #2, Batman works with the military in an attempt to stop the blackout. Despite being in a powerless crisis, Batman does everything he can, which is exactly what humanity has shown throughout the entire COVID-19 pandemic.
Batman's strength and ability to move forward ended up being extinguished, not any kind of power (which the team had). Batman gains Superman's powers at the end of The fortress He is a slap in the face in his decisions throughout the story.
Batman: Castle It could be the perfect story of DC disease
But There Is Still a Big Gap
While DC Comics has made light references here and there to Pandemic (which can refer to any recent DC event), the only direct reference is entirely contained in Danny Devito's non-canon Penguin story, “Bird Cat Love” by Devito, Dan. Mora, Tamra Bonvillain, and Troy Peteri appear Gotham City Villains Anniversary Giant #1, where Penguin and Catwoman steal and release vaccines around the world. Here it is is still a hole in the DC Multiverse for the story of COVID-19 that highlights the heroic efforts of mankind, doing what they can with the skills they have – true heroism is seen throughout the pandemic.
Understandably, DC didn't want to include this pandemic in stories built on a premise of hope – even stories that are so tragic. Batman – but different stories like The fortresssince there is already a disaster, it would be the perfect place to show one's bravery. It would have made a perfect match, but unfortunately, Batman: Castle he chose not to go down that route.
Batman: Castle is available now from DC Comics.
