Larian Studios' Patch 7 for Baldur's Gate 3 introduced new dialogue, building on scenes between the characters, such as Minthara realizing she was cast out in Act 1 and Astarion showing growth when the player spends the night with Mizora. It's the biggest episode yet, though there's one relationship between the two characters that Larian Studios hasn't touched on, even with players desperately asking for it. There is no conflict, talking about each other, or idle conversation between Halsin and Minthara. Studios' decision to withhold any new dialogue makes sense because of the massive action it would require.
Before many renovations and repairs, players are given the opportunity to recruit former Archdruid Halsin or paladin Minthara. Their decision was based on whether the player helped defend the Emerald Grove or aided in the raid in Act 1 and would later lead to one of the characters joining the party in Act 2. Unfortunately for Minthara, her recruitment costs the player and not just Halsin. friend, but also Wyll and Karlach, and the players did not enjoy the weighty exchange. Due to fan requests, Larian Studios has made some changes to its recruitment process. There is still a structural hole.
Halsin and Minthara Are Never Said to Be in the Same Party
Larian Studios Succumbed to the Pressure
Halsin and Minthara are initially on two opposing sides of the game's conflict. Act 1 relies heavily on giving the player a choice and dealing with the consequences of that choice; choosing to help the tieflings and druids or the Absolute and the goblins became the main theme of the action. In order to gain the trust and support of Halsin or Minthara, the player needs to support one of them in their goal, which ultimately means that the other character will not be able to fulfill their wish. It was a strong way of establishing decisions and outcomes it's early Baldur's Gate 3.
It was only because players wanted to experience both Halsin and Minthara in the party at the same time that Larian Stuidos wrapped and updated the game to make it possible. Before that update, players were finding all kinds of ways to cheat the game to include Minthara in the team. In the current iteration of the game, players can switch their attack to action and take him out of the Goblin Camp, allowing him to later appear at Moonrise Towers, punished for his failure by Ketheric Thorm. On his prison break, he can join the gang, and Halsin says nothing about it. That is because there is no dialogue completed in the game between them.
The Hidden Conversation Between Halsin and Minthara was Data-Encrypted
Even If They Both Join, It Won't Be Long
Even though no dialogue is recorded and developed between the two in the finished product, the dialogue is included in the data in the game files showing that the interaction is recorded. It begins as soon as Minthara arrives at the player's camp after rescuing him from Moonrise Towers and shows Halsin putting an end to the player, looking for a player to choose between him and Minthara. Because of their history in Act 1, Halsin refuses to go with him and every conversation choice leads to one of the two being kicked out of the group. This unearthed information shows that Larian Studios considered the possibility of Halsin and Minthara being at the same party, if only briefly.
Written interactions may allow the player to follow the storyline of protecting the Druid Grove and keeping Minthara alive so they can keep Wyll and Karlach in the party. Developers at Larian Studios realized the plot issues of Halsin and Minthara remaining at the party together and how their history and opposing values could not work together. It also shows that even when Larian Studios is working on getting Minthara into a good game, not working in a large work building hours of cooperation and the dialogue between Halsin and Minthara or that pointed to them partying together.
Halsin and Minthara It's A Most Overlooked Plot Hole
It's More Hard Than It's Worth to Fix It
It's understandable why Patch 7 didn't include any dialogue between Halsin and Minthara, and any future patches probably won't either. Including one cut scene or conversation between the two for the player to join them or witness would not do them justice. It will just tip the hat to the issue and then leave the whole game with a hole in the structure of the bite. To actually make Halsin and Minthara realize each other's presence in the game would cost the studio a huge amount of time and money to write, film, edit and develop hours of dialogue and scenes.
So with good reason Larian decided to leave them as they were. As the players hoped, both can be in the party at the same time. They have their own unique interactions with other characters and their story arcs that expand from Act 2 to Act 3. Their lack of interaction can be seen as a plot hole or viewed as the couple's way of refusing to acknowledge others. ' presence, which focuses only on their own things and supporting the player in their mission to destroy the Absolute. Either way, it's a plot hole that will last for the foreseeable future and doesn't negatively affect gameplay Baldur's Gate 3.
