I The Energon Universe version of Starcream is one of the most ruthless villains this country has ever seen Transformers franchise, but the character may not have always been heartless and cruel. A preview of next month Transformers #13 reveals the Decepticon's origins on Cybertron, showing that he wasn't all bad…
Issued with Skybound.compreview of Transformers #13 from the creative team of Daniel Warren Johnson, Jason Howard, Mike Spicer & Rus Wooton. After a flashback to when Soundwave defeated Starcream for the right to lead the Decepticons, fans were treated to another flashback of Starcream on Cybertron.
The Starcream seen in the Cybertron flashback – named “Ulchtar” – is very different from the feared villain fans currently know.. He is joined by his friends Jetfire and Genvo, who pick him up from work to testify about something they are referring to “to pass.”
Starcream's Origin Makes Despicable Villain More Complex
A Decepticon Wasn't Always Evil
The preview ends before the students can see that Jetfire, Genvo and Starcream rush to see it, but Jorge Corona's alternate cover shows three onlookers in awe as the Omega Supreme flies overhead. If the arrival of the Omega Supreme is indeed what these three are hoping for, it could be a great start to the Transformers corner of the Energon Universe. Traditionally, Omega Supreme was the last of the Guardian robots, the peace-keeping giants that guarded the cities of Cybertron years ago. As one of the most powerful Autobots around, Omega Supreme is a valuable ally to Optimus Prime and co., and could be a game changer if he were to return in today's storyline.
Aside from the potential debut of the Omega Supreme, the the preview is notable because it shows what Starcream was like before the Autobot/Decepticon battle. Genvo has already joined the Decepticons, and encourages his friends to join as well. Ulchtar/Starscream has no interest in war, even preventing Genvo from killing the insect-like “turbosects” because they are essential to the life cycle. It's a far cry from the Decepticon villain who attacked a hospital on Earth today, so it will be interesting to know what happened to Ulchtar between now and then to turn him into the ruthless, reckless Starscream of today.
How Will Starscream Go Bad?
The Energon Universe continues to get new twists on Classic Transformers Lore
With Transformers taking the time to tell the origin of Starscream in issues #13-14, fans will likely see his transformation into Megatron's second-in-command. Now that it's known that Starcream survived his battle with Soundwave, the character's return to the present day also promises to be a big deal. And with Megatron waiting in the wings after escaping his prison at the hands of Cobra Commander, Transformers it continues to be just one of the most exciting things The Energon Universe titles, but one of the funniest comics in the stands.
